The Most AFFORDABLE Gaming PC We've Built!

Buy Now
So today we're building a gaming PC and the best part is that it's not gonna cost you an arm and alike in fact the parts list for this PC came to around seven hundred dollars with mail and rebates which is pretty sweet coming to think of it we haven't done a sub one thousand dollar gaming PC build in a really long time.

So here it is now before I jump into the parts list I do want to mention something very important this is a PC gaming and I want to emphasize gaming because that's ultimately what we're going for it's not necessarily something that's geared for streaming or content creation in fact if you're looking for something that can do all of that you might have to spend a few extra hundred dollars on top of that to achieve something that is what am i doing I don't even know what I'm doing everything something that can do every day also please note that these were the prices when we bought the components so they may change over time this best gaming pc is built around Intel's be 365 platform and I'm sure most of you might have not heard of that but it exists it actually does exist and before you guys start raging in the comments hear me out for a second first of all this video is not sponsored by Intel and secondly we feel like this is the best bang for the buck gaming PC that you can get given the budget that we're working with and there are some downsides going with this platform and I'll definitely talk about a little bit later in the video.

I'll walk you through some suggestions and alternatives if you absolutely desperately need Rison in your life because I know some people are gonna get hurt for for not going with horizon V PC I mean I understand you I feel you and and I'm gonna I'm gonna give you options so sit tight and let's go over what we have right after this the Neo cases by metal gear come in three variations neo silent neo air and neon G to satisfy your build and visual preference with the good IO excellent internal layout and RGB fans included on Neo G and air models check the description to see which neo is best for you okay so the CP of choice is the core i5 9400 F it's a six core processor without hyper threading and it doesn't have a GP which isn't the goal for this build because it's strictly a gaming pc build and that's where a discrete GPU comes into play its price $145 and for the same cost if you're looking for something from AMD that would be the horizon 530 400 G which features for course and a threads and comes with built-in radio and rx graphics another alternative is the Rison 5 2600 which is a six core 12 third processor and you can pick it up for less than $120 it seems like a better option if you're looking for streaming and all kinds of stuff but do keep in mind that it isn't the latest and greatest offering from AMD and if you were to look from a raw FB a standpoint Intel still takes the edge here you can also go with the rise in 536 hundred but do keep in mind that's gonna add an extra hundred dollars on top of this given budget but the good thing about going with mizen is that you can also overclock that processor to squeeze just a little bit more performance whereas with Intel it's locked which means you really can tinker around with the settings which is unfortunate but here's what we're working with given the budget ask for the motherboard I chose the as rock beat through 65 m phantom gaming for it's a micro ATX board featuring 2/m 2/m eme slots one of them featuring a heatsink and for $85 this is a really good-looking motherboard it doesn't need overclocking capabilities like z3 90 since the i5 processor that we're using is locked out of the box and it serves our purpose pretty well now here are the downsides of going with a be 365 motherboard the first one is pretty obvious it's upgradability because if you plan on dropping in something like a 9700 K or 9900 K you really won't be able to get the best performance out of them because first of all you can't overclock them secondly you also lose on IO expansions with this platform and this chipset in the first place whereas with Rison you can kind of make your way up to a higher end riser processor and still be able to overclock that processor so for instance you can quote with a be 450 motherboard and then perhaps later on upgrade to something like a 2700 X or potentially even drop in a 3700 X if you feel like it and overclock that as well so the upgrade ability options are certainly a lot more open on the A&E; side versus Intel to cool the CPU we decided to use the stock cooler that comes with the processor just to keep the price under $700 after rebates but if you're comfortable spending a few extra bucks I would highly recommend picking up the hyper 212 Evo from Coolermaster black edition it doesn't come with any RGB nonsense it's a lot more quieter than the stock one and it gives you better temperatures as well but that is another option if you're looking into something that's not too ugly for memory we went with 16 gigabytes of Corsair Vengeance lpx modules clocked at 26 66 megahertz this is a dual shell kit and it's priced at 63 dollars which is something that we will defined to fit the budget this next bit is the most exciting part in fact I haven't been this excited about using a store solution because this my friends is the silicon power 880 and me me SSD it's 512 gigabytes in capacity and it really costs $60 that is just crazy I mean $60 for 512 gigabytes is absolute madness I mean it's a steal I can't wait to test the performance of this guy but it also makes me realize how high-capacity access deeds aren't getting cheap and this is this is a perfect perfect fit for the build I mean there's just nothing more that I can add on top of this because it's just it's crazy now the most important part of this build is the graphics card and for that we decided to go with EB G's GTX 1660s see because it's priced at $240 but you can pick it up right now for $220 with some rebates but also you're not paying the RTX tax and for 1080p gaming this is a perfect fit in my opinion powering this entire build is the corsair CX 450 M it is a semi modular PSU and it should be plenty enough to power the entire hardware and finally the case of choice is the Pentek speed 300 it's priced less than $65 and for that it looks really good not to mention the red interior does give it a bit of a premium look and you also get tempered glass so if you want to showcase the components inside the PC this is a great option so the parts list out of the way let's put together this build [Music] [Music] [Music] so this is the final build guys and to be honest with you I'm not happy with the way how it looks let's get the first thing out of the way and that is the stock cooler it is an eyesore to look at especially through that tempered glass panel it just doesn't fit because you've got those cables going into the front panel or the fan header I mean it just doesn't feel or it doesn't look right something just doesn't feel in sync with this cami PC and this can easily addressed with an aftermarket cooling solution so if you plan on picking it up be hyper 212 black edition that should be a perfect fit for this build the next thing that bothered me the most East case because it only comes with a single 120 millimeter exhaust fan at the back so currently there are no front intake fans which it's not an ideal airflow solution but I ran my temperature test and a CPU and GPU ran but I would highly recommend picking a few extra fans intake fans for the front so that you have that airflow movement going through the hardware but yeah that is that's one of the downsides with this case I mean I really wish the fan tax included just next your fan for the front that being said negative pressure inside this case could be one of those factors that led to lower CPU and GPU temperatures so I guess the last thing to go over is how does it game well you can comfortably push heavy-duty triple-a titles at 1080p to the highest settings way above 60 frames per second the includes battlefield 1 overwatch apex legends Far Cry 5 and shadow of the Tomb Raider oh and I also added a benchmarking the AAT nvme SSD and as you can see it's it's crazy fast guys this is this is mind-blowing the power color Rx 5700 xt red devil is a special kind of graphics card with a fantastic cooler two modes available for the user 10 phase vrm designed to improve stability and OC headroom and fiery RGB illumination to satisfy check it out below now you might notice that I did not include synthetic benchmarks as well as real-world rendering performance results and that's because as I mentioned earlier this is a gaming PC but what I am planning on doing very soon is comparing it dollar versus dollar Intel versus AMD build very soon so I'll take this build and compared to the Rison 5 2600 with the same graphics card and then see what the performance is like compare them head-to-head so definitely stay tuned for that video but until then let me know what you guys think about this seventeen dollar gaming PC I know a lot of people might have thoughts you could start waging if you want in the comments but I'm more excited to test this system with what amy has to offer for the same dollar

Buy Now
These are the top five phones under $500 you don't need to spend a lot of money to get a great phone anymore so forget the Samsung Galaxy S 10 5g and the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Mac super ultra mega edition let's talk about more inexpensive options.

1- Apple iPhone 8
the Apple iPhone 8 it's priced at 450 so it's just slightly a better deal than the pixel 3 what is there to say about the iPhone at this point it's an extremely solid phone for almost anybody there are the standard up sites you get iOS updates super quickly on the back of the iPhone 8 is just one camera but apples cameras have a track record of producing great pictures there the standard downsides to the iPhone like having to use a lightning cable no headphone jack and the existence of Syria the iPhone 8 design is kind of retro / dull at this point you get a home button and touch ID if you're not into the whole face scanning thing the iPhone 8 is a good option I know I seem kind of down on the iPhone 8 but it's a great phone for the money as Scott Stein put it consider this the sensible sedan to the iPhone tens roadster well stated so why do this episode now with all the competition out well I'll tell you I saw a lot of expensive phones released in 2019 without 5g so if you were thinking of an upgrade this year maybe you don't need to spend a round of grand for a great LTE phone wacky I know big thanks to Lin law for helping out a my as act hard I'll see you online check out these videos if you want to know more about these expensive phones like the pixel 4 or the iPhone 11 Pro

2- Google pixel 3
Google pixel 3 this phone was once priced at nearly $800 now it can be had for just under 500 there are so many upsides to the pixel 3 you get the latest versions of Android as soon as possible you get fantastic photos even in very low light there's water resistance wireless charging and no comically large not like on the three XL the pixel 3 will also get some of the software features seen in the new pixel 4 including the new version of assistant and astrophotography Google reps told me that the features may not be exactly the same on the 3 due to hardware issues but those are still good features and while the pixel 3 does not come with a standard headphone jack the 3 comes with a pair of wired USBC earbuds and an adapter for standard headphones.

3- Samsung Galaxy A 50
I'm glad you asked it's the Samsung Galaxy A 50 it has a six point four inch display and a pretty slick design the cutout on the top of the screen is a bit more elegant than some competitors on the back you get a small camera right again it's a bit more understated than something like the Moto G 7 with a big ol circular setup the a 50s 4,000 milli amp hour battery lasted over 17 hours in our tests the MSRP for the Samsung Galaxy A 50 is around three hundred dollars that can be found for under 250 these days.

4- Moto Z
Moto Z for you get a six point four inch OLED screen and an N screen fingerprint sensor the z4 has some decent specs with four gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of storage there's even a standard headphone jack as for battery life the z4 survived over nineteen hours in our tests the phone is also able to take advantage of moto mods so you can add a bigger camera a speaker or even five G on Verizon if you want the Moto z4 could be found for around three hundred dollars.

5- LG G8
LG G8 think you know that's not a joke an LG phone is on this list I know I give the company a hard time but the G a think U is really solid at just under $500 it's one of LG's top phones and has bizarre features like a rear fingerprint sensor and a headphone jack it's camera is able to take fancy video by blurring out the background it's not perfect but it's something the g8 also can handle in air gestures get in touch with your inner mime by activating apps with a movement or turning invisible knobs to control volume.

Canon M6 Mark II Review

Buy Now

Just when it seemed like canon was putting all of its energy into the full-frame eos our series it unveiled a flagship aps-c camera and the m6 mark ii is an important model for Canon for several reasons first off its canons new flagship M series camera replacing both the m5 and m6 models it also has an all-new 32 megapixel sensor with the highest resolution you can find on any aps-c mirrorless camera as a flagship camera it delivers flagship features like very fast shooting speeds face and I detect autofocus and full sensor 4k at 850 dollars the m62 is competitive with its rivals namely the sony a sixty-four hundred Fujifilm xt 30 and Nikon's new Z 50 well the m6 Mark 2 has that headline-grabbing sensor it's controversial for what it doesn't have now let's dive in and find out why all of canons m-series cameras are compact and the m6 mark 2 is no exception it weighs just 408 grams with a battery and memory card I run the same as its rivals there's a big caveat to that spec though unlike all its rivals the m6 - doesn't have a built-in electronic viewfinder to get that feature you need the optional $200 EVF DC - which adds it to the bulk and price of the camera as a reminder the m5 did have an EDF while the original m6 didn't canon might have figured that vloggers don't need it and photographers would be willing to pay an extra 200 dollars to get it either way it's a bad decision in my opinion that issue aside the m6 - is easy to shoot with the buttons are all easy to find and the grip is comfortable for the size of the camera however I do prefer the bigger grip on Nikon z50 there are three dials on top to change the shooting mode focus and aperture you adjust other common settings like exposure compensation and shooting mode from the rear control dial the m62 doesn't have many programmable buttons but it does have a dial function button for the ISO and a variety of other settings with some programming I was able to do most of my shooting with the manual controls and quick menu when you do have to dive into the menus Canon system is better than some of its rivals but not by a lot the rear display isn't fully articulating but it does flip up 180 degrees for vloggers or selfie takers it lets you set a focus point even when you're using the EVF and control both the quick and main menus the m62 doesn't have it built-in EVF but it does have a pop-up flash that can come in handy when you're shooting portraits and need a bit of fill light the flip up screen is better for vloggers than the flip down screen on Nikon z50 that's because you could attach a tripod or stabilizer without blocking the screen however it won't work if you attach a microphone to the hotshoe speaking of the m6 has a microphone input but doesn't have a headphone jack by contrast Fuji films XT 30 has a USB C port that can be used as a headphone output there's only one memory card but at least it's an SD UHS 2 slot Nikon Z 50 by contrast only has a slower uhs-1 slot the smallish LP e 17 battery is good for hundred and five shots but a mere 250 with the EVF attached considering how fast the m62 can shoot you'll need to carry several of those batteries it can hit 14 frame per second bursts in the fastest shooting mode with autofocus and auto exposure enabled that's an incredible speed for such a small camera in reality canons digit 8 image processor isn't quite as quick as what sony has on the a 6400 as a result the AF system occasionally had trouble keeping up with the camera at 14 frames per second if even that isn't fast enough.

Canon has a new raw burst mode that lets you shoot cropped 18 megapixel photos at up to 30 frames per second for 84 frames with continuous autofocus tracking that mode is very effective provided that your subjects move predictably also be aware of the fact that it takes a long time for the buffer to clear both in regular and raw burst modes the m62 uses canons dual pixel AF which is slower than what sony has but more accurate with tracking enabled you just need to select a subject and it will stay locked on you can also select face and eye detection provided your subject is human overall it works well but occasionally misses focus when the processor can't keep up if you keep dragging point of this camera is the high-resolution 32 point 5 megapixels sensor it delivers photos with more detail than any other aps-c mirrorless camera especially if you use the fine detail setting it also has canons excellent color size to deliver accurate colors and lifelike skin tones when shooting JPEGs the 14 bit RAW files as you can imagine are huge in size at up to 50 megapixels each in Lightroom though they give you lots of room to fix your over or under exposure mistakes and tweak colors to your heart's content for such a high resolution camera it also has very decent low-light capability with usable shots up to ISO 12800 for best results it's best to stay below ISO 6400 though there's one unexpected issue with such a high res sensor Canon has just 8 M Series lenses and only a few are sharp enough to handle 32 megapixels this has been an ongoing issue for M mount camera owners but luckily Sigma will soon release three Prime's that should be better you can also use Canada our lenses via an EF adapter but then you're throwing away the advantages of the m6 2's compact size with full sensor 4k a flip up screen and dual pixel autofocus the m62 should make a good vlogging and general-purpose video camera it can do those things but I wouldn't recommend it for a few reasons it simply doesn't deliver sharp a downsampled video like its rivals it also lacks a 24 P video option though Canon has promised to address that in a future firmware update another issue is the lack of a headphone jack so you can't monitor audio while shooting I have mixed feelings about this camera on the one hand it delivers excellent high resolution images even in low-light and you can shoot those at a very high speed and count on canons dual pixel autofocus however Canon has a poor selection of amount lenses and many of them aren't sharp enough for the sensor and it's unacceptable for a flagship camera to be missing a built-in EVF finally the m62 could be a good vlogging camera but the poor 4k video quality doesn't cut it next to rivals for all-around performance you'd be better off getting Fuji films $800 X 230 which i think is a better camera in this price range Sony's a 6400 has slightly better autofocus while the Nikon G 50 is a bit easier to use that said if you need a compact high resolution camera the Canon m6 mark 2 is the best and really the only game in town

Why Apple needs the iPhone SE 2

Buy Now

The iPhone SE making a comeback Google goes head-to-head with the iPhone 11 and the airport's and is Apple working on a smart ring let's get to all the Apple news and rumors starting now low cost and iPhone in the same sentence you didn't hear that wrong it's the iPhone SE 2 we've heard rumblings over the past few weeks that the iPhone SE might be getting a sequel instead of that iconic design though which is familiar from the iPhone 4 and 5 expected to look more like the iPhone 8 according to longtime Apple analyst Ming Chico the new phone would be this spiritual successor to the iPhone SE.

Which came out in 2016 not it's identical twin that means a 4.7 inch display which is bigger than the iPhone SE s 4-inch screen around the back it could have a single camera rather than the dual camera design on the iPhone 11 and inside it's not going to be a slouch either with core predicting that the a13 Bionic chip with three gigabytes of RAM will be there plus a 64 or 128 gigabyte option and colors could be more simple than the iPhone 11 with space grey silver and red now none of this is new tech inside but the idea is that Apple would keep the costs low enough probably around 399 u.s. dollars to entice people coming from older phones to stick with the iPhone don't forget that older phones like the iPhone 6 are no longer able to update to iOS 13 anymore so why does Apple need a new iPhone SE well let's break it down a bit the cheapest new iPhone is currently the iPhone 8 which is 449 US dollars now it sounds insignificant but even shaving $50 off that price on a phone with newer internals suddenly opens up a whole new market particularly in countries outside the US it's more important than ever that Apple has devices that span the entire price bracket particularly in markets like India where not only are manufacturers like Samsung selling a lot more phones but premium smartphones which is anything that costs over the equivalent of 450 u.s. only makes up around four percent of the market one thing we can probably be sure of is that this new phone probably won't be called the iPhone SE to keep an eye out for it in the first quarter of 2020 maybe in March and if you're interested in the history and some really great analysis of the iPhone SE I highly recommend you go watch Rene Richie's video which I've linked to in the description below we are halfway through tech Tova and google has just taken the wraps off the new pixel 4 and the pixel buds let's get a quick look at how oranges compared to apples well because why not her texture first up the pixel 4 comes in two sizes a 5.7 inch and 6.3 inch OLED screen with a 90 Hertz refresh rate the pixel uses Google's motion sense radar system for gesture control and has an infrared camera for secure face unlock just like Apple's face ID on paper though Apple's got the advantage of three cameras a regular wide-angle and an ultra wide-angle for its 12 megapixel cameras around the back plus the addition of a telephoto lens on the 11pro Google's decided that a regular wide-angle and telephoto is the way to go now both of these phones use a lot of computational photography tricks but the pixel promises a revamped portrait mode and astrophotography in night mode amongst some other things I can't wait to see how deep fusion stacks up to the pixel camera so stay tuned for the comparisons also announced were the pixel buds and here it's hard not to draw comparisons to the airports thanks to that similar looking case although the pixel buds sit inside your ear and don't have a stem Google's buds will be a hundred and seventy nine dollars compared to one hundred and fifty nine for the airports and they have the same battery life which is five hours in the buds themselves and 24 hours total charge from the case but the pixel buds won't be available until spring 2020 and by then who knows we might even have the air pods 3 just when you thought the list of rumored Apple products wasn't long enough like a our glasses Bluetooth tracking tag and so on we have another potential candidate to add to that list a smart ring this week Apple Insider revealed a pattern that shows a ring that could be they offer a lot of what the Apple watch does but it's on your finger instead of on your wrist now this was originally filed back in 2015 but it was only recently granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office the patent shows a ring with a touchscreen processor wireless transceiver a microphone and some sensors to detect hand gestures plus there's a dial that could be maybe a mini digital crown like on the Apple watch now some of those gestures include swiping or maybe flicking to adjust menu settings or pointing to open a link how useful will a smart ring actually be well for one I think it will be really interesting to see how it could reduce friction between wanting to control something like say answering a phone call without pulling out a phone or gazing at your watch and Apple is not alone in trying to find other places on your body to put devices the hundred and thirty dollar Amazon echo loop announced a few weeks ago has a microphone so you can talk to your assistant plus a tiny speaker and an action button and it works on Android and iOS on last week's show I asked you what features you wanted on the room at airports three airports pro or whatever they're gonna be cold and a lot of you had some great suggestions so Apple if you're listening here is our ultimate wish list Snickers says shortest em noise canceling heartbeat monitor hey Siri one hour more audio playback Romo wants a faster connection less delay and better sound quality page votes for noise canceling better stayin in my ears and better battery life Nikhil says type-c in the charging port yes please and milky has a great one a new proximity sensor that the iPhone 11 and 11 pro have which is that you one ship that'll make it easy to find them if you've lost them some great suggestions there thank you for all your comments I do read every single one of them so please keep them coming and this week seeing as we're on the suggestions train I would love to hear your thoughts on what you want from a cheaper iPhone apart from of course you know being less expensive than the current iPhone 11 thanks so much for watching and make sure to come back next week for more news and rumors on the apple core.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6: Good, But Good Enough?

Buy Now

Well everyone's been paying attention to iPads and surface tablets something unexpected happened Android tablets have actually gotten pretty good the Galaxy Tab s fix is an example of that but is it good enough to replace a surface or an iPad the s6 out does last year's model with a quicker more powerful processor more flexible storage expandable up to one terabyte using a microSD card and new Dex mode updates Zion wise;

See On Amazon:

The Galaxy Tablet had a minimalistic makeover the tablet is now 60 grams lighter and one millimeter thinner keeping the same ten and a half inch display by adding thinner bezels and rounded corners it also streamlined sign-ins with on-screen fingerprint scanning and two tap gestures to wake the tablet Samsung may have streamlined a little too far by removing their headphone jack but they try to make up for it with the addition of quad speakers and their dual rear camera the s6 comes with a new S Pen Stylus that now sports a more angular lighter design while continuing to be a great tool for drawing or taking handwritten notes when using the pen a small icon appears on the screen that acts as a shortcut to productivity apps like notes and screen writing this makes jotting down miscellaneous notes and to-do lists easier than ever before although writing on screen doesn't feel quite the same as writing on paper and the Pens weight may be strange for someone more used to the weight of a traditional pen or pencil the stylus gets the job done by gliding smoothly across the screen and accurately recording the writing the updated S Pen also recognized air actions like waving a magic wand you can perform certain actions like scrolling through media changing camera settings or adjusting volume by moving the S Pen through the air as much as I would love to be a real life wizard air actions are great in theory but missed the mark in action they are limited to only a few apps and are difficult to do clearly enough for the device to recognize the command in the end it seemed to take more time waving around the stylus than it does to just tap on the screen to charge the s-pen magnetically attaches to the Nook in the back of the tab although the pen can be secured for the ten minutes needed for a full charge the magnetic notch is not intended for storage especially if you want to avoid losing the stylist instead an additional case or the book cover keyboard like this one is recommended just like the stylus in the tablet itself the keyboard also has been updated the most notable change being the addition of a trackpad and a row of function keys that include a quick launch button for Dex mode just like the EDS for surface pro and other tablets the new book cover keyboard is not included this is frustrating because it's what makes this habit feel like a reasonable laptop substitution the tab x6 comes in blue blush and gray it costs six hundred and fifty dollars for the base model and seven hundred and thirty dollars with the premium model both include the S Pen Stylus but not the keyboard cover which cost an additional 180 dollars even with these great added features choosing an Android tablets a tough call the tab x6 doesn't really give a compelling enough case to ditch the surface pro or the iPad pro even if some of its features are good or even better than its competitors you

Samsung Galaxy Fold, Again: Hard to Love, Harder to Hate (Review)

Buy Now
it's been three weeks since I picked up this the final redesigned galaxy fold and I have to tell you I've had one thing lodged in the back of my head the entire time I've been using this it's a kind of low-level anxiety that somewhere somehow at some point I will do something and break it that hasn't happened yet and I'm honestly a bit surprised I mean the narrative around the galaxy fold has been this is an overly fragile phone and if you look at it the wrong way you're probably gonna break it to help really get a feel for what this redesign is done for the phone I've done my best to not baby this thing which is hard when you're working with a $2,000 phone I'm taking the kid gloves off and in day-to-day use this thing is held up surprisingly well but just because it's more durable doesn't mean anyone should finally rush out and go buy this thing at the end of the day still just an expensive experiment let's take a closer look.
We ran a full galaxy fold review back in April when this thing was supposedly very close to launching and I still stand by everything I said when it comes to software and overall usability so to get a full sense of what the galaxy fold is really capable of I strongly suggest you read that review or watch that video before you watch this one I should also point out that even though this phone has been through a lot since spring I still can't help but love it in a way it just offers a new take on the stuff that I tend to do most frequently but the ability to do these things on a small screen or a big screen as needed feels just as powerful now as it did back then it is for my money the best eReader i've ever used because who doesn't want to start reading on the subway on a nice 7.3 inch screen and then just sort of continue reading on this smaller display when someone squeezes in next to you I'm very anxious so I want to take up as little space as possible and that's the perfect year the screen is also great for video if you're okay with the crease and don't mind this sort of side-mounted knotch but I don't think it's that big a deal I will also say that I spend a lot of time playing video games on my phone and this provides what I think is the best DS emulation experience ever the thing about this big screen though is that it really is designed to help you get more done Samsung's multi-window is designed to let you run up to three apps on this display and if you're clever and get a couple floating windows in there you can have up to five apps running at the same time should you do that absolutely not but I can see certain situations where you're just having one of those days and you have to do a thousand things at once where you could feasibly make the argument that this is valuable having said all that the Galaxy fold software still needs polish it still feels very experimental in some ways apps that you'd use very frequently like Instagram for example just don't display correctly on this bigger screen especially if you're looking at someone's Instagram stories it's also really hard to tell which apps work well in multi window mode and which don't so expect a lot of trial and error as you get used to the galaxy fold that's not necessarily a bad thing but I don't know this is a $2,000 phone you shouldn't have to do as much trial and error I don't think that's unfair for more on all that again I think you should check out our original review but we have to talk about how much more durable this thing is Samsung has made a handful of obvious practical changes that go a long way in making this feel more like a phone that's worth two thousand dollars the original Galaxy fold for example had these three little gaps at the top and the bottom of the display that stuff could very easily get into Samsung has capped that now with little bits of plastic and what appear to be adhesive to just sort of seal things off even more thoroughly it seems to work but I can also see a little bit of a gap where the adhesive seems to be coming up off of the display so is it possible something could get in through there yes I don't know that that's necessarily a huge concern but with a phone like this that just intrinsically has more points of failure than a regular phone every little crevice every little potential flaw is I think worth pointing out speaking of stuff getting inside the phone samsung is also redesigned the hinge if you take a look there's basically no noticeable gap between the hinge and the two sides of the phone it's a pretty stark contrast to what we had before a design that for all the world look like if you had some cheeto crumbs or pocket schmutz going on you'd be concerned that stuff would get inside that shouldn't be the case this time and the hinge improvements extend beyond there as well too when the screen is open it actually feels surprisingly sturdy when everything is locked into place which I definitely could not say about the original Galaxy fold one of my favorite shots from our original review video was me sort of doing this and it's just harder to do now it still happens obviously but by and large the screen just wants to stay locked in place way more than the original ever did on top of that this big internal screen just fuels a lot less spongy than it used to which frankly goes a long way in making it feel like you're using a phone that's worth 2,000 bucks there are of course just some intrinsic issues here that some people can live with and some people just take the screen for example there is no matter how you look at it a pretty noticeable crease down the middle it's maybe not quite as noticeable as on the earlier model that we tested in April but it's still there and it can be a little distracting since your eyes just sort of always notice it this 7.3 inch internal screen is not covered in glass making it far more fragile than probably any other smartphone screen you've ever used yes it feels sturdier and the plastic layer that used to sort of just sit on top of the screen is now been pushed to under the bezel so you can't lift it up and destroy your phone in the process that's all undeniably good stuff but.

What happens when you drop this thing facedown on a sidewalk if there's I don't know a pebble on the ground rising up from the surface and bypassing that bezel that is 100% the kind of thing that the fold cannot deal with and it's not the only thing either there are some damaged galaxy folds out there and while the damage might not be as dramatic as what we saw earlier this year it's still something to keep in mind our colleagues over at TechCrunch just closed and open the phone one day to find a dark dead spot right in the middle of the screen you've probably seen CNET's video in which they've opened and closed the phone over a hundred thousand times that fold screen eventually died well before the two hundred thousand folds that samsung itself had sort of projected these things would be able to handle and I get it that's not exactly a fair comparison no one is sitting there doing this all of the time although you're in a gadget here so maybe you will the point is it kind of seems like even Samsung doesn't know if and when these screens will give out it's a matter of happenstance and really that's what stays with me the most I am no longer concerned that the Galaxy fold is just going to die on me immediately it's not going to happen and hasn't happened with either of the phones I've tested so far it's more durable than most people would have you believe but do I believe that this will fail at some point yeah I think it's inevitable I've never used a device like this one that so acutely reminds me of its own mortality and that takes a lot of getting used to I don't know that I can recommend it just because of that if you buy one of these things sure you might have a great time multitasking and playing games and watching video but on some level back there in your head somewhere you'll always be concerned that the next day or the next day or the next day will be the folds last so at the end of it all after testing two galaxy folds should anyone actually go and buy one of these things you know the answer to that no of course not what I said in our original review is that the Galaxy fold is an expensive experiment and that's still true if you buy this phone you are still giving a company two thousand dollars to be their guinea pig if that's you and that's really what you want then more power to you we do need people like you out there beta testing the future for the rest of you who just want something that works who wants something that will help you live life on your terms not make you meet it halfway any other phone is probably the way to go I know it's been a little hard on this thing but it's only really because I wanted to love it so much and on some level I still do every reason I laid out earlier from sweet multitasking to gaming to reading to watching videos it all works better here than on other devices the thing to really keep in mind though is that even after all of Samsung's work repairing and redesigning and fixing all of those little issues this phone is still just an essential first step towards really figuring out what a foldable can and should do for more news on the Galaxy fold and really everything else going out there in tech land be sure to keep watching and gadget.

Samsung made the smartwatch Google couldn't

Samsung's Galaxy Watch Active 2 is here and has a new touch-sensitive bezel. In this review, Dieter Bohn looks at whether it will finally solve the problem of smartwatches for Android users. It's the best one, but there are definitely caveats.

- Okay, look, it's confession time. I've spent the last year and a half or so complaining that there aren't any good smartwatch options for Android users, but here's a question for me. What if I've been too hard on all these watches? Now, look, there aren't any great options. There's nothing as good as the Apple Watch for iPhone users, that's just facts. But this watch right here, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 from Samsung, it is a good smartwatch. Not great, but good. So anyway, if you have an Android phone, and you wanna smartwatch you should give this thing a look. And if your Android phone happens to be a Samsung phone, you should definitely give it a second look, because this thing is actually kind of a looker, you see what I did there?
All right, so the Active 2 is a smartwatch that comes with a round OLED screen that comes in two sizes, a 40, and a 44 millimeter. This is the 44 millimeter. It starts at 279, which ain't bad, and it comes in a few different colors and finishes, and there's also an LTE version if you wanna spend more money. Now it runs this operating system called Tizen, which is a custom Samsung thing that also happens to run their TVs. Anyway, the watch can work with both iPhones and Android phones, but if you have an iPhone, well, trust me, you should just move on, get an Apple Watch if you want a smartwatch. Anyway, the Tizen underpinning here doesn't really matter so much as the interface that's on top of it. And I love it, and I hate it. It's a hate/love relationship. See, Samsung designed everything her to work in circles, because the watch is round. You spin your finger around the bevel to do things, like look at widgets or notifications, or even apps, and I love that, it's really clear and really consistent, and it's fast to get around. That whole circle system, by the way, is why this is the Galaxy Active 2. The first Galaxy Watch Active was released like six months before this one, and six months isn't a very long time between models. But the thing is, Samsung just straight up didn't think about how this OS works in circles, so the first one didn't have a bezel. This is one does have a touch sensitive rotating bezel that you can run your finger around. I will say that a touch sensitive bezel, it's not quite as fun or as cool as an actual, physical rotating one, but it works. And overall, I think this hardware works really well. It's simple, but it's not basic. And it's clean without being boring. Plus the OLED screen is great. It's always on, and that is how watches are supposed to be, and I don't know why it took Apple five years to get that right (laughing). Look, why is this watch good? It gets the basics right, it mirrors notifications, it lets you reply to incoming messages, it has a bunch of health features for tracking most of the stuff that you'd expect, and it has a battery that lasts a full day. It's comfortable to wear, and it's not aggressively chunky, it just kinda blends in. It also does some really nice stuff that I haven't seen other smartwatches do well. Like it has this goodnight mode, which is actually really smart. It turns off the screen, and notifications, and goes into a sleep tracking mode. You can set up these widgets on this watch, which you could scroll into with the touch sensitive bezel, and I use them all the time. It's actually a feature that Google pretty much straight up copied for AOS and they should've copied it, because it's great. It also comes with Spotify, and you can download Spotify music directly to the watch, which is great. Not so great is the third party app eco system. There's really not a lot of things you're gonna want there. Also, if you've seen anybody recommend the YouTube or Twitter apps for this watch, just trust me, you don't want them. Besides, you know, there's a full Samsung internet web browser here if you want. You can watch YouTube on that. There's also no apps map built in, and I haven't found a great third party option that I really like.
Now, the watch faces are, well look, they're fine. There's a ton of ones built in, but I haven't found on that I love, just one that I kind of like. Plus, all the complication option, they're just, they're too complicated. There are third party watch faces though, in the store, which is great, but finding a good one requires wading through a lot of really, rally bad ones. But look, top level, this is a watch that looks pretty good, can handle fitness stuff, lasts all day, and has a nice interface. Why is this just a good watch, and not, well great? (sighing) Samsung, specifically it's Samsung's software. It's just, it's so much. I'm not even talking about the aesthetics. If you aren't already using a Samsung phone, you have to install a least like three things on your phone just to get started, and that doesn't even include Samsung Health, or Samsung Pay. And well, the voice assistant on this watch is Bixby. And look, I don't wanna make fun too much of Bixby, because honestly, it can do some basic stuff okay, like transcription, but overall, it is slow, and it's, you know, it's bad. Overall, I would say that this is the best asterisk smart watch for Android users. I don't think there's anything better, so this is the defacto the best. But while it's good, it's not great. And that's the asterisk. For Android users, good is about as good as it gets, and you know, I'll take it. If you're watching this video closely, you probably saw this thing sitting right here. It is the Galaxy Fold, I am currently reviewing it. If you got questions about this thing, let me know, down in the comments. Also, are you interested in a smartwatch? I'm curious about that too, what are you looking at right now?

iPhone 11 Pro Review

When Apple talks about the iPhone 11 Pro and almost sounds like it's the star of its own action movie it's the most advanced iPhone ever made and it's also the most powerful and it's constantly targeted by the competition and if it looks and sounds a little over the top that's because it is the iPhone 11 Pro is an amazing phone but is it really worthy of its name or just another iPhone in the lineup a stopgap that's just filling time until the next big iPhone revolution finally arrives the iPhone 11 Pro is an almost perfect phone with one big problem it's not the only flagship out there there are other smart phones that feature more Pro displays with smaller notches other phones that have super thin bezels and almost no notch at all and even some that have almost identical specs both way lower price tag the iPhone 11 pro remains above most of the competition at the peak of smartphone innovation and to really understand why it's at the top we need to start at the bottomwe all know the story of how the original iPhone changed the world iPhone but we often forget the years in between the big releases yes there were some truly standout years stop me if you've already seen this but even the updates with little fanfare still set the stage for something bigger and many argue that the iPhone 10 was the last time Apple really innovated but maybe they're just taking their time to perfect the formula and although the iPhone 11 pro looks almost identical to10 and the 10s looks can be deceiving and in many ways this phone is totally new so I've been using the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro max for the better part of two weeks and I want to share the good and the bad and ultimately let you guys know if the iPhone 11 Pro max has been the perfect phone for me or if my wondering as you're looking elsewhere so very early on I was out on a Saturday afternoon at peak sunlight and my kids soccer game taking my inevitable millions of dad shots and with last gens phones it was hard to see the screen when it was really bright out very early on in testing I could see the screen as brighter because I could see my kid playing goalie and that was something new it's a subtle difference but if you use your phone outdoors a lot the difference that I think you really appreciate and one that I was really happy to notice while you're indoors though it's close to the same story as a 10s in the 10s max it's a really good AMOLED panel it's it's made by Samsung apples tune the colors it looks really good if your use case for your phones and I imagine mostly wear like this because I use is like watching YouTube videos you're not gonna notice that much of a difference if you're watching movies that maybe you stream from Amazon or you bought from Apple and it's in HD are that you can tell them especially if you hold them side by side so while this plays are generally really good I've got some issues first Apple calling it super Retina XDR is a crazy insane marketing term that really means nothing if you're gonna have a display and call it super anything and throw some letters at the end I would expect a pro motion display out expect something at least 90 Hertz to be on there like you have on much less expensive devices again this is a pro model phone I would expect some of those pro level features I didn't realize how much I use 3d touch on the iPhone 10s max until it was gone so double-edged sword here I appreciate the consistency now of forced touch or have to touch it works the same across all the phones pretty much across any app or menu some things are knowing like being able to scroll around from anywhere on the keyboard are not limited to just on the spacebar and I am happy to give that up and get used to using haptic touch for that little better battery life you don't have to have that extra layer of hardware that Apple is filled with little tiny extra cells sort of evolved to give you just better battery performance overall so quickly actually take my phone off the charger around 6 o'clock I generally have between 3 and 5 hours of screen on time doing various stuff social media email taking a lot of pictures and when I have time watching some YouTube videos and with the 10s max time I charge my phone at the end of the day usually it was around 40 percent with the iPhone 11 Pro max now about 50% so I have 10% extra battery life that's been nice to have I'm finding myself not charging my phone every day like I used to or just charge it in the car during my 30 mile commute and that's been enough to get me through a whole day I almost feel like I'm getting close to same battery life that I had with my tennis max the battery case as I am now on my 11th pro max

During Apple's keynote they talked about this is the strongest glass they've ever put on a phone how it could survive drops and survived a nun slot of lettuce and other household items I don't care how strong glass is in the Battle of Glass versus concrete's glass is not going to win so you want to protect your thousand dollar plus investment and I want to give a big shout out and thank you to gear 4 for sponsoring this video right now I'm rocking the Piccadilly the cases from gear 4 do a really nice job of being thin but also giving you protection I don't want a giant bulky case in my pocket and the material they're using here the d3o it's material let's use in helmet it's used by athletes it's trusted material for protection for heads it'll be good for your phone so the cases are actually available at Verizon if you've got a local store but you oughta buy them online we'll put a link to them down below just Wiggles down to wanting to protect your investment and do it in a way that's not going to be crazy bulk and so at least for me let's you look and sort of see the beauty of the phone underneath

So in addition to the longer battery life the a13 Bionic is here for the ride and you know it's better cuz it's one Bionic better versus what we had in the iPhone 10s and theoretically it's capable of a lot more than the 812 could do I haven't seen any differences in two weeks apps open up just as fast the phone turns on just as quickly multitasking is just as fast as it ever was if there is one area where you can say you see the improvements of the extra horsepower it's on the biggest selling point of the iPhone 11 Pro line it's the cameras you've got the wide the ultra wide and the telephoto and adds more versatility to your picture taking and they certainly take excellent pictures but I'm not sure the real story is on the hardware themselves I think the bigger deal is than what Apple is doing on the software side the smartphone competition has gotten crazy fierce Google is putting out amazing cameras Samsung is putting out amazing cameras and Apple has kind of been sometimes at the front sometimes they get past depending on the year but those competition is made Apple really step up their game and the culmination of I think the best cameras on any smartphone what you get with the iPhone 11 Pro so when smart HDR launched last year they debut to a lot of fanfare but it had its issues when it came out that beauty gate doing some weird smoothing stuff with people's skin it wasn't perfect and it did ultimately get better but I think what we have now with the iPhone 11 Pro is probably what Apple always imagined smart HDR to be you've got better contrast those issues that plagued two 10s when it came out are not here anymore the faces look true skies look beautiful and not blown out colors that are meant to look bright and vibrant look bright and vibrant without being oversaturated you can see detail and things you couldn't see detail in before the overall picture quality in the picture fidelity are really good so outdoors with lots of life pretty much any modern smartphone camera can take a decent shot so of course you guys won eleven

There's no exception where you start to see what it's capable of when you get to like the less ideal lighting shots where you would have ordinarily lost detail are still there colors that are meant to be vibrant still look vibrant it's really hard to take bad looking shots here when Google debuted nitesite almost a year ago it seems like magic and I want to give Google credit for I think forcing Apple the rest of the competition to really start looking at nighttime photography seriously and step up their game and I'm shocked at for a rookie effort the first time Apple's done this night mode how good the shots look and they try to make it look like natural night I'm not trying to make a nighttime sky look like daylight I imagine that's really hard algorithms are probably working double-time in the back but the photos look real they don't look like a nighttime shot that got processed I think that's the best compliment that I can give to what Apple's done but also giving credit to Google really setting the stage for what nighttime photography could eventually be on mobile phones so being the newest iPhone you expect video to look the best on any iPhone and it does and despite what Apple tells you while being really good for video it doesn't quite look like this it looks more like this so the things that are making this the best version of video obviously the processor the addition of HDR and 4k 60 is nice to have front-facing camera now has 4k 60 and the stabilization seems almost go pro level of great but it's not perfect in fact I still have to exit the camera app go into settings to change your resolution this far into iOS is silly I would have liked to have seen Apple do some sort of portrait mode on video we're starting to see already from the competition

So the iPhone or 11pro and Promax are good phones no matter how you look at it but there still are some questions so as far as if it should be considered Pro that one's a bit of a tougher question but if you want to say what a foe needs to have to be considered Pro it would be multiple cameras it would be a really long battery life it would be incredibly powerful camera multiple charging options and a beautiful screen and the iPhone 11 Pro checks most of those boxes but not all especially on the screen side where I've talked about areas I'd like to see improvements so if used those as the metrics and yeah it's a pro phone but I think there were pro in Apple's mine's just a marketing term to separate it from the iPhone 11 what makes this generation of iPhones unique is actually the iPhone 11 the fact that Apple has now made essentially a flagship for everybody I think it's such a huge step up from the iPhone 10 are at the 11th is pretty much the iPhone every person should buy that takes the weight off of Apple and kind of gives them room to try new things with that ProLiant the more expensive line of phones that aren't meant for everybody so while the current crop of iPhone 11 prose might not meet the pro standards there's now a roadmap set what Apple's flagship phones can build into much like the first generation iPad pro wasn't professional but it grew into something that was then gap was gonna follow that same road map now with the iPhone 11 Pro today iPhone 11 Pro is by no means a perfect phone the changes to the 11pro are small and if you look at each of those features individually they're not giant if you look at them all together they add up to a package that is a really good phone probably when the best phones I've ever used and a phone I could happily keep in my pocket for the next 12 months
